Alastair Suren

Alastair is a freshwater ecologist working at the Bay of Plenty regional Council. Whilst his research interests were mainly focused on invertebrate communities in streams and wetlands, as well as Ecohydrology, he has found new interest since joining the Council. He recently took part of a nationwide study conducted by 16 councils throughout New Zealand to develop methodologies for robust eDNA assessments of ecological communities. Like most freshwater scientists in councils throughout the country, he is also grappling with the inherent complexity is of the NPSFM and its implementation. This has led him to a growing interest single malt whiskey.
