Michael W Klunzinger
Dr Michael W. Klunzinger is a Research Fellow in Freshwater Ecology and Conservation at the Australian Rivers Institute, Griffith University. He has a broad background in Animal Agriculture and Environmental Science having completed a Master of Science in livestock nutrient management in the USA and a PhD in freshwater ecology and conservation from Murdoch University with a thesis that involved the biology, ecology, and conservation status of an endemic freshwater mussel from south-western Australia. He had a break from academia following completion of his PhD where he worked in local government, the mining and water industries in Environmental Planning and Management as well as Water Quality and Trade Waste Management in both Western Australia and south-eastern Queensland. His current research focus is on the ecology, biology, and conservation of Australasian freshwater mussels and more broadly on projects involving assessing impacts and management planning for freshwater biota in the Murray-Darling Basin and south-eastern Australia. He is a member of the IUCN Red List Mollusc Specialist Group and Director for the Malacological Society of Australasia and recently joined the Australian Freshwater Sciences Society.
