Colton N Perna

Colton has worked in tropical Australian aquatic ecology for over 30 years with a special interest in river-floodplain dynamics. He completed an MSc. on fish habitat restoration in 2003 working on the highly modified floodplain wetlands of the Burdekin River south of Townsville. After completing his MSc. he worked with the then named Australian Centre for Freshwater Research (now TropWater) at JCU as a research scientist. As well as his work with JCU and various state agencies Colton has a keen interest in Electrofishing boat design and sampling efficiency. He has helped design boats here in Australia and Singapore through his business Efish. He has conducted field surveys in most catchments between Townsville and Darwin with recent work on his PhD focusing on the Roper catchment. Colton is interested in further understanding fish ecology via food webs (current PhD), especially in relation to flow, climate change and feral ungulates, as improved knowledge of our aquatic ecosystems will help ameliorate the impacts of future water resource development throughout Tropical Australia.
