Kate S Boersma
Dr. Kate Boersma is an associate professor in the Biology Department at the University of San Diego and aquatic ecologist working in desert streams and rivers. Her research examines the effects of stream fragmentation and intermittency on aquatic invertebrate communities, the incredible adaptations that allow desert aquatic organisms to survive habitat drying, and how these organisms might respond to a hotter and drier future. Topics of special interest include multivariate community analysis, mechanisms promoting resilience of communities following perturbations, and evolutionary adaptations of aquatic taxa to extreme droughts. Boersma believes that human diversity is an essential part of the scientific process and works to increase the representation, retention, and success of womxn and other underrepresented groups in the biological sciences.
