Sebastian Espinoza Freshwater Sciences 2023

Sebastian Espinoza

Sebastian Espinoza is a second-year PhD student at the University of Tennessee and a member of the Giam lab. Broadly, he is interested in understanding the impacts of human activities on vulnerable freshwater and human communities. The former is explored by his research on the effects of hydropower dams on freshwater biodiversity in the tropics. The latter is explored by his research on the linkages between industrial land use change and socio-economic and demographic disparities through the lens of freshwater systems. He utilizes large datasets to discern patterns across space, time, and taxa. Understanding these relationships is important to develop applied and actionable science that can directly inform managers, stakeholders, and policymakers.
