Martha Jolly
Previously a practicing veterinarian, Martha gained a Masters in companion animal medicine in 2015. Following an interest in feeshwater ecology she joined the freshwater Ecology research Group and the University of Canterbury in 2021 on a summer scholarship, leading to a full time PhD position in 2022. Her research focuses around securing vulnerable populations of non-migratory galaxiid fish species endemic to Aotearoa, from the impact of introduced sports fish, namely trout. The use of barriers or isolation managment has shown short-term promise in the protection of these populations, however multiple key kowledge gaps make longer term drivers of success uncertain. Addressing some vital issues such as population viability and predator removal feasibility will allow conservationists to prioritise habitats and populations in which success is likely.
