The partnership established between the Tropical Water Research Alliance-TWRA and the Paraná State Government through their ecosystem of Innovation, Science, and Technology is a new way to support and improve research in the state. The Paraná science and technology system is made up of 12 state and federal universities, several private universities, and research centers. Through the Araucaria Foundation Agency an innovative program called “New Arrangement of Research and Innovation-NAPI” was implanted to support research in different areas of acknowledgment. The NAPI WATER together with universities, the Paraná Meteorological System-SIMEPAR, and the TWRA compound a net of researchers working in a collaborative way to the assertive initiatives regarding water sustainability, ecosystem, and climate change. These organizations are developing the project “Indicators and indexes of vulnerability and exposure to the effects of climate change in strategic sectors in the state of Paraná” to establish the climate vulnerability indicators and predictors that assessed the environmental risk and quantify the vulnerability of a given region demonstrating its main weaknesses, pointing out trends or phenomena that are difficult to detect. We diagnosed four strategic sectors: ecosystems and ecosystem services, coastal and littoral zones, urban health, and state transport infrastructure. As important outcomes, we highlight the construction of a state platform system that congregates environmental data; a huge lack of information in sectors like transport infrastructure, and coastal and littoral zones. Besides the importance of the state government agencies' engagement with TWRA, universities, and SIMEPAR to promote practical and quick guides to the decision makers properly base their actions on the social, economic, and environmental context regarding the preservation of the environment.
